Regional masterbuilder for a reason

A licensed building practitioner in Design, Site and Carpentry, Steve and his Fineline team were successful in the 2008 Regional Masterbuilders House of the Year competition: A Silver Award & Category winner, Steve and his professional team also won the lifestyle awards for excellence in bathroom design and excellence in overall interior design.

Steve became a Registered Master Builder because he wanted to give clients the extra assurance of a ten year guarantee. He sees the builder-client relationship as the most important aspect of any project.

Steve always strives to use subcontractors who can complete their work to the highest standard and is very proud of their work on the featured homes.
"If the builder and the client have good communication throughout the project, they can always solve any problems or make any adjustments along the way.
We would like to thank all our subcontractors for their professional attitude and quality work."
- Steve and Maria Cretney
Over 25 years ago Steve and I built our first home in Greytown. We hired a young builder who had just gone out on his own and he made our first build experience a fantastic one and we were very happy with his workmanship and our new home. We raised our family there but as the years passed and they departed it was time to think about retirement and building our dream home that would ‘see us out.

To be honest, we didn’t think for a moment we could repeat our first time experience until a friend recommended Steve Cretney of Fineline Construction. From the first meeting with Steve we knew we had found the right builder for the job and didn’t hesitate to contract him.
Steve worked with us to achieve everything we had planned for our new home and more. Steve and his worker Jason are the easiest people on this planet to get along with, extremely reliable, meticulous, honest and work a solid day when onsite. Steve took on board the budget we had set, consistently factored this in throughout the build and delivered our new home thousands of dollars under budget. A bonus we had not even considered … !!

Fineline Construction are a local company with a rich 30+yr history of building in the Wairarapa. They are highly regarded by other contractors and coupled with these Steve and I have no hesitation in recommending Steve Cretney for your build. You won’t just get a beautiful new home, you also get friends for life.

In 2008 we contracted Steve Cretney / Fineline Construction 2001 to build The Summit Lodge in Gladstone.

We chose Steve as it meant we would be working with the owner as opposed to a foreman at a bigger company.

We found the communication lines were excellent with Steve, whether it was us asking his advice or Steve questioning the architect’s plans and seeking clarification.

The eye for detail Steve displayed was excellent and whether it be one of the subbies not quite meeting Steve’s standards, or his colleague, second best was not an option.

Our building project was completed in an acceptable time frame, one has to expect the odd delay when building and though we weren’t exempt ours were minimal.

Overall, we were impressed with Steve’s performance and delighted with our new home. We thoroughly recommend Fineline Construction 2001 to everyone considering a building project and welcome anyone wishing to contact us for a verbal reference or for additional feedback.
